With the Leonids approaching the usual suspects are having a get together on the night of the 16/17th. Depending on the weather we will be going to either the Loch Doon vicinty or more centrally near the hamlet of Aldie. I'll post the final details here but feel free to come along. Should the weather treat us kindly these night are always excellent entertainment. Good company and good chat. Cheers, Bill.

Hi Bill,
Would love to join you but it's just a little bit too far from Cheshire :-)
Good luck on the night - hope you have clear skies!
William

Looks like the weather is going to spoil things as usual for the 16/17. Typical. Bill.

Hi William, You'd think that after so many years of disappointment it would get easier but it never does! Yes, hopefully tomorrow night will bring a clear spell for a few hours observing. Interestingly the IMO calendar has various times for minor stream crossings so it's always worth a look just in case. Cheers, Bill.

Cool and wet this evening but the rain has now stopped. Video camera running in imaging mode , so we'll see if the Leonids gives us any nice meteors between the showers.

Was out last night from 0200 to 0400 GMT to try and catch some Leonids visually ... managed two A quick review of the cameras revealed a very low turnout and most of those were short, fast and faint. More later ... William

Hi, I've just had a look at last nights recordings. There were some heavy showers last night, had over 6mm of rain but some clear spells too. Recorded 22 meteors but only 5 definite Leonids. Apart from one, which may have been +1 the others were were faint also. Very poor weather coming in so I don't think there'll be much observing for the rest of the week. Bill.

I'm getting soft in my dotage so I let the latest video unit (A Watec 902H2 with 3.8mm f0.8 lens) strut its stuff & logged on VHS tape. Ran between 21:40 UT & 00:30 UT on Nov 17/18 2012 which is U/S for Leonids as it is too early.Sat in the kitchen watching the TV monitor !I cannot burn the candle at both ends these days. Looking forward to the Gems (if we get clear skies) as I still enjoy a good visual session & an active major shower is good for the adrenalin.Hoping for some more clear sky so I can start UFO Capture for the video up again before the Gems.

Hi, I had clear skies last night (Nov 17/18) after a couple of pre-midnight rainy spells. I captured 30 meteors last night, of which 12 were categorised as Leonids by UFO Analyser. Hopefully some were captured by stewartw for our 2-station project. I can only add one attachment at a time, so I've attached the trails map and I'll add some examples in the next couple of messages. Clear skies, Alex. Attachments:

Sorry Alex, My cameras didn't pick up either of those I did get a spectacular Leonid but it was too far north for your system. Overall it was quite disappointing for the Leonids this year ... what's everyone up to in 2022 (http://feraj.narod.ru/Radiants/Predictions/1901-2100eng/Leo2021-2030eng.html)? William Attachments:
