Hi,
Back to meteor oberserving now the NLC season is drawing to a close. Had a decent haul last night, few sporadics, few anthelion, and 8 Perseids.
cheers.
Bill.

Hi Bill, Yes, the rates are certainly picking up - if only we had a good run of clear nights. Friday night / Saturday morning was very clear and Ravensmoor detected >90 meteors - haven't completed the analysis but I suspect a good haul of Perseids. Hope you managed to get some good NLC data Best regards William

Hi, Had a couple of hours of clearish sky last night. Looked like cirrus cloud in the sky. Not much apart from one really bright Perseid, lovely. Bill.

A beautiful night with a many meteors. Two very bright meteors captured, one Perseid and possibly a k Cygnid generating a faint spectrum. The forecast here looks poor for the next few days unfortunately so not much hope for the peak but you never know! Bill.

Hi Bill,
Yes, a good night down here too in Cheshire. Likewise, probably the best one (weather wise) this side of the maximum.
Best regards
William

The spectrum shot was difficult to use as it was faint, not much use. However I can definitely confirm the two strongest lines in the spectrum were Sodium at 590nm and Magnesium at 518nm. You can see the spectrum to the left of the meteor in the image. This frame was stretched to try and bring up the spectrum a bit. cheers, Bill. Attachments:

Pretty poor night, a few breaks but never completely clear. Caught 5 spectra but only one with any distinct lines. Total of only 23 meteors with 20 Perseids and 3 sporadics. Cheers, Bill.

Here's the spectra plotted. Only two metalic lines the rest are all atmospheric lines. Attachments:

What a great night. Some really nice fireballs and some great spectra. It'll take a bit of time to reduce and measure these ones properly cheers, Bill. Attachments:

Hi all, Spent all day working through the spectrum captures from last night. 65 meteors caught with the narrow fov and grating system, 24 had spectra and 5 were exceptional. It just gets better! ;D This is probably the best of them quality wise, video on YouTube, youtu.be/NoTsZ-ksAU0Still composite, from ~390nm to ~850nm in the first order (wavelength running from right to left in this case). Star below and right is Capella. Haven't even started on the second machine yet. This is too much like work! cheers, Bill. Attachments:

Re: Perseids 2013 Well done, Bill. Quite an achievement to get such a number of high quality spectra. I captured 209 meteors last night (Aug 12/13) with 166 of them categorised as Perseids. This is more than last year, so it bodes well for multi-station analysis with stewartw. About 6 of them appeared at the same time (within 1 -2sec) of another meteor. I've attached an example of a bright Perseid with a fainter companion to the right. Clear skies, Alex. Attachments:

Hi Bill,
Just to echo Alex's comments, well done - it looks like you've got some very nice data - looking forward to seeing the final results.
Have had some challenging weather conditions here in Cheshire over the pat few nights - Monday was the best but was clouded out for about half the time - still to do the analysis but 235 bagged on the night.
Last night was clear - until it went dark - cleared again at dawn but still got a few in the twilight.
Best regards
William

After a bit of a red herring due to optical trickery finally managed to measure and identify some of the fainter lines. Here's a graphical representation. Attachments:
