Hi,
The latest BAA journal arrived today and I have to say well done gents.
William, Alex and Len have done a fine job, it's an excellent meteor science article!
Keep up the good work.
Cheers, Bill.

Thanks Bill.
As mentioned by William, we have submitted papers on last year's meteor showers to the BAA Journal and the IMO WGN.
It takes quite a while to work through all the data, but it was very pleasing to obtain the end results, compare them with standard sources, and find that our captures confirm the findings of others.
If only we had better weather!
Cheers,
Alex.

Hi,
I've got a paper that will be appearing in the WGN (41:4 I think) and I also emailed the BAA to see what kind of format they accepted but never got a reply. In what format did you submit to the BAA? I might submit it to the SPA instead. It's pretty general stuff with some basic geometry.
As the article is based on time sequences I took whilst observing the Geminids I'm presenting a short lecture at the IMC showing the sequences and discussing the results. It seemed like a good idea at the time now I'm not so sure, they're a discerning audience!
cheers, Bill.

Hi Bill, Who did you e-mail in the BAA? The BAA website has details of how to submit material for the Journal. This is the link britastro.org/baa/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=57&Itemid=86Write your article in a word processor such as Microsoft Word, but don't use any fancy formatting options. The figures and tables must not be embedded into the doc, rather you note in the main text where they should appear. Then e-mail all the files to Nick james (BAA Papers Secretary). You will then receive a reply from Nick with a reference number for your submission. He will advise you if your contribution meets the main requirements and if he needs to forward your work to appointed referees. The referees may contact you to discuss / modify / expand part of your paper, then when they give the OK it goes to BAA Council for their thumbs up. If it clears these hurdles then your article is passed to the Editor to format it and schedule its publication in the Journal. Hope this helps, Alex.

Hi Alex, I hadn't seen the general guidlines but it was Nick I sent my email to. The reason I wanted to check was becasue the only version I had was in LaTex for WGN. I didn't know if the BAA worked with that format, just a general enquiry. I'm going to convert it into word anyhow. Cheers, Bill.

Hi Bill,
I last used LaTeX about a hundred years ago, when I was a Systems Manager on DEC VAXes.
I guess it is popular with the Editors of WGN because of its ability to format mathematical formulae, although it seems a bit arcane until you get used to it. Thankfully, WGN also accept Word docs.
Clear skies,
Alex.
