Hi William, As the camera is not permenantly mounted I have an arc from E to NE where the camera points. This is so that the camera is not illuminated directly by street lights or security lights (when they are triggered). I have to say though, that the local authority have just replaced the street lights in mine and some adjacent street with the new balanced spectrum full cut off lamps. They're actually quite good! The sky was noticibly darker when I was doing some visual observing on Friday night. Well done them! Had a decent night last night. Perseid activity is still up with around 30 or so out of the total recorded. cheers, Bill.

Hi, Many thanks to BillW for setting up this Forum, which has led to successful 2-station meteor work with stewartw. We operate video cameras across a baseline of 107km, running UFO Capture. Recordings are processed via UFO Analyser and meteor radiants, ground plots and orbital maps (from the best data) are generated by UFO Orbit. Like most observers, we had unfavourable weather during the Perseids shower, but we managed to capture a number of 2-station events. The radiant plot, ground map and orbit plot are given in separate postings for a Perseid captured on 2012 August 9 21:32:49 UT as an example. Clear skies, Alex. Attachments:

The Orbit Plot for 2012 Aug 9 21:32:49 UT. Showing the 2 possible orbits from 2 stations and the intermediate Unified Orbit between them. More examples are forthcoming from 2-station work with stewartw. Alex. Attachments:

Hi guys,
That's a good piece of work and I think it show's what can be achieved. Hopefully it will encourage more people to have a go!
I received an cc'd email from John Mason to Alex and William and all I'll ask is that if you put something together for the journal please give the forum a mention and quote the URL.
I am delighted it has actually performed a useful function and maybe it'll bring more observers together in such a manner.
cheers, Bill.

A minor PS to a previous post, I had the camera out last night and managed a few hours clear sky. Looks like I caught a couple of late perseids, so still some activity.

Hi Bill,
Yes, the Meteor Observer's Forum will certainly be included in the report to John Mason for the BAA Journal.
I had a fairly clear sky last night, Aug 19/20, and captured just a few meteors, some might be late Perseids, when I get to analyse them.
Cheers,
Alex.

Yes, the Perseids are still active - I caught a few last night in spite of the conditions being less than ideal ... lovely clear night tonight ... William
