Time lapse videos of clouds are good at showing how clouds can appear and disappear in the same part of the sky (depending on temperature and humidity) and I suspect you've imaged the contrail performing the same sort of trick as the vapour trail temporarily condensed into a short lived cloud. That's very true. I did wonder if it might have been a lentic as we get them here from time to time. Thanks for the explanation. I was wondering if there was a connection between this forum and NEMETODE. I noticed that there are a couple of gaps in coverage that we might be able to fill although it might need a bit of work with a chainsaw! One of the reasons we moved here is because of the relatively light pollution free skies, which although not perfect are a lot better than the skies at our previous suburban home. Best regards, Leo
