Hi Everyone, thought I wanted to share my recent correspondence with the developer of UFOCapture (http://sonotaco.com/e_index.html) on which cards to use: Original email: Hi SonotaCo, I found this video capture card (ImpactVCB): www.hauppage.com/site/products/prods_analog.htmlDo you think it will work with your UFOCapture software? Reply from SonotaCo: Compatibility on video capture is very complex. The compatibility of UFOCapture is almost same with Microsoft Media Encoder. The point is whether the device driver supports Microsoft DirectShow uncompressed video capture interface or not. Usually, it can be supposed by the hardware type. There are two types in low cost capture equipments. One is so called hardware encoding type, that includes a hardware encoder chip in it. And the other is so called software encoding type, that does not have hardware encoder. Most of hardware encoding type is NOT compatible with UFOCapture, because they usually do not have un-compressed video capture interface on DirectShow. Most of the software encoding type is compatible with UFOCapture. But there is exception always, and we cannot test all devices in the world. So, please test by yourself if you want to use other devices than our recommendation.

Hi Astrotoby and welcome aboard!
By coincidence I have one of these Hauppage boards myself. It worked fine when I finally got it configured BUT when I switched off the PC it would lose all the settings. Each and every time! I don't know whether it was a driver/os compatibility issue but it drove me to distraction and I pulled the thing out. In the old desk tops I use Video Mate C100 or C500. These too are quite old technology but they have worked without problems so far.
So I don't know if it'll work on your system without having to re-set it every time but it'll probably work if you can leave the thing powered on all the time, maybe not the best idea depending on your circumstances though.
Cheers, Bill.
