I'm interested in taking my interest in meteors observing up a notch. I'm particularly interested in learning more about the orbital dynamics of meteors, the physics behind how they behave in the atmosphere and their geochemistry. Can anyone suggest useful books, websites or even courses that can help?

Hi, One of the best books I can think of is Meteors, Comets and Meteorites by Gerald S Hawkins. McGraw Hill series in Undergraduate Astronomy,McGraw Hill Inc, 1964. It is an old book and I don't think it was ever re-printed. You'll need to search the second hand book sites for it. The only caution is that some of the material is dated. The details on photography, for example, have been eclipsed by technology. Some of ideas have also changed with time BUT the basic physics and fundamental ideas are fine. There is nothing like it that I can suggest that is more recent if you want something that is more advanced than the usual observers guides. Also the International Meteor Organisations' Meteor Observers Handbook is very good for advanced observational methods. Check out www.imo.net/imo/publicationsThis may or may not be avaialble as it tends to sell out unbeleiveably fast! Happy reading! cheers, Bill.
