Hi, Recent discussions have indicated the need for a location where bright events which an observer thinks may have been caught by others can be posted. With regard to the coverage maps of exisiting network members (any network or group) post details of the event and ensure you include the location and orientation of your camera. This will indicate to others if there is a chance of a mutual capture with respect to their own location and camera orientation. Observers using dslr or ccd cameras should take images in directions where there is good video coverage. This will help to ensure that any bright meteors will have both good temporal (video) and spatial (still image) information recorded. Guidance on this that be taken from the video network coverage maps that exist online. For example at www.nemetode.org/nodes.html and ukmeteornetwork.co.uk/category/network/cheers, Bill.

I caught a moderate spectrum last night at 03 11 06 UT. Camera bearing was az 150 deg, alt 50 deg. The meteor was close to the western edge (right hand side) either obscured by cloud or just outside the fov. For once the meteor was almost perfectly aligned wrt the grating, pity about the cloud.... cheers, Bill. Attachments:

A belter last night!, if it had been just a bit more conveniently located..... Ran a bit shallow to the dispersion axis but lots of visible lines. Several in the blue so probably calcium and iron lines. Looks like a stony iron. For reference Perseus is visible over the frame and the big line is the umpteenth order of scattered moonlight. This was to my north east due to the moon problem, anyone get this? Camera Az:~58 deg Alt:~40 deg from Kilwinning. cheers, Bill. Attachments:

Hi Bill,
Very nice capture - the power of spectroscopy indeed!
Didn't get in from Ravensmoor and I'm not aware of any cameras covering the sky to your NE :-(
Cheers
William

Hi, A pity, I was wondering if it might have been a bright Taurid? Cheers, Bill.

A lot of artifacts due to the shallow angle and video scan lines but an interesting spectrum. The blue end is the interesting part with all the metals. Attachments:
